Keepers

Post by liam_sccc on Thu Jan 10, 2008 3:09 pm

so we have all gone through this before on other forums but not on here. who do you think is the best with the GLOVES, i personally do not think the keeper has to be an amazing batsmen, they just need to support the better batter and play a few shots later on when needed and concetrate on keeping

Davies and Foster are not good enough to mention Mannie!
IMO Read is the best keeper but Jones is a better batsman and I would pick him for the england side. The selectors need to show some faith in him so that he has a long stint in which he can show what he can do!

I like Mustard tbh I tihnk England just have to pick him and out their confidence in him and he will grow. He is a quality aggressive batsmen and a good keeper. Whats not to like?

If u read any coaching manuels then you will see that chris read makes himself look like a good keeper becuase he has a smaller channel which means the chance of dropping cathces is reduced but it means he stops himself from even bothering taking on the difficult chances and these are the chances which win matches . I think that they should let have matt proior have a rest then come back for the south africa series, bacuase all he needs to do is work on the keeping because he is the best batsman out the lot. I think mustard should stay one day keeper with his aggresive style, but he just hasnt had enough time in county cricket.

I dont get England at all. Keepers win and loose you matches! I mean if a keeper drops a guy on 15 and he makes 212 that means you have to make 198 runs to just get back to even. A keeper should be picked on the BEST KEEPER!

I mean if you have a keeper who keeps better than Gilly and could not hold a bat for peanut or you have a guy who keeps like Read and bats like Gilly then you pick the guy who is better than gilly at keeping!

I disagree that we have no one, because we do we actually have three that have all shown capabity of being good keepers (i mean gilly is like a once in a lifetime player like sobers) but all three have been handled badly, or been totally overlooked. What it tells me is that we have no decent wicket keeping coach going around because look at the bowlers, they get tanned in australia then they come back with a good bowling coach (allan donald) and all of a sudden they look much much better

Read is best keeper in England by a long stretch but he never had a proper chance and needs another one just whether he can do wit the bat is the next thing!
